Final Papers Submission

Authors need to register before submit the final version of the paper. One author must be registered in order to upload the paper.

Papers have to be submitted via PaperPlaza Conference/Journal Management System. Please click the submission button in the useful links section. No-show paper will not be included in the final IEEEXplore publication.
Full Papers should be submitted electronically in PDF format. Six camera-ready pages including figures and references are allowed for each paper (up to eighth pages with extra cost and maximum of 2 per LBR). Multimedia attachments, 1 minute video less than than 10 Mb.

Please use the templates provided in this page for your submission. Also we strongly recommend to do an IEEE compliance test for your paper before upload it.

Call for Papers

The 2016 IEEE International Symposium on Safety, Security, and Rescue Robotics seeks to continue its tradition of attracting cutting-edge papers (and video contributions) in the theory and practice of robotics and automation for all types of safety, security, and rescue applications such as disaster response, mitigation and recovery; rapid and secure inspection of critical infrastructure; detection of chemical, biological and radiological risks, and operations in these dangerous sites. SSRR is also an entry point for researchers and technologists who want to learn more about safety, security and rescue robotics, through workshops and keynotes. Please download the PDF version in the useful links section.
Topics include but are not limited to:

  • Autonomous search and rescue
  • Casualty assessment, care and extraction
  • Communications for reliable data transfer
  • Detection and mitigation of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) events
  • Emerging technologies (sensors, power sources, micro robots, etc)
  • Humanitarian applications (Was Humanitarian demining)
  • Human-robot interaction and interfaces
  • Inspection of critical infrastructure
  • Intelligent behaviors to improve robot performance and survivability
  • Manipulation
  • Mechanisms, Mechatronics, and Embedded Control
  • Multi-agent coordination
  • Novel sensors and mechanisms
  • Nuclear decommissioning
  • Perception for navigation, hazard detection, and victim identification
  • Robotics and Automation for safety and security
  • Safety standards for robots and systems
  • Sensing and sensor fusion
  • SLAM in complex and/or extreme environments
  • Structural assessment
  • Telemedicine
  • Unmanned ground, aerial, and marine vehicles
In addition, SSRR 2016 will feature four awards:
  • Best Paper Award
  • Best Student Paper Award
  • Best Late Breaking Reports Award
  • Best Demonstration Award

Paper Submission

Papers have to be submitted via PaperPlaza Conference/Journal Management System. Please click the submission button in the useful links section. No-show paper will not be included in the final IEEEXplore publication.
Full Papers should be submitted electronically in PDF format. Six camera-ready pages including figures and references are allowed for each paper (up to eighth pages with extra cost). Multimedia attachements, 1 minute video less than than 10 Mb are strongly encouraged.

Additional Submissions

Late breaking reports (2 pages max) and Video contributions will be also considered and peer reviewed. If accepted will be included in the program and indexed in IEEEXPlore. Please note that the deadline for these contributions is extended to 5 of August, 2016.

Late Breaking Reports:

Late Breaking Reports should be submitted electronically in PDF format via PaperPlaza. Two (2) camera-ready pages including figures are allowed for each paper, using the same guidelines of contributed papers. No-show late breaking report will not be included in IEEE Xplores.

Video:

Video will be also considered and included in the program. IEEE XPlore will archive both accepted videos and their mandatory 2-page PDF summary. Note: video submissions are different from media clips that are attached to traditional papers. Video submissions are presented by the authors at the conference in a dedicated session. Initial video contributions (a self-contained 1.5-3 minutes video not connected with paper submitted to SSRR 2016. Be aware that videos longer than 3 minutes will be automatically rejected) consist of a mpeg file (max 50 MB), accompanied by a summary in the form of a PDF file (up to 2 pages long), using the same format as a contributed paper and uploaded to PaperPlaza (using the link of Late Breaking Reports). Your video contribution should not have a commercial pitch. The authors of each video must have clear copyright of the audio and visual content.

Paper Templates

Papers should be formatted according to the IEEE standards. Papers failing to meet the correct format will be rejected. Please use the Letter Size Paper Template on the IEEE website: http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html

If you prefer LaTeX, use the command \documentclass[conference,10pt,letter]{IEEEtran}.

Demonstration submission

Robot Demonstrations are welcome. Please submit a one page description of how your system will be compelling for safety, security, or rescue robot developers and users. Images and video of the demo are encouraged. Please send an email to (demo@ssrrobotics.org). For more details, please go to the demostration page.

Special Issue of Journal of Field Robotics

Nominated papers for "Best Paper", "Best Student Paper" awards and other outstanding papers that report field experiments will be considered for a special issue of the Journal of Field Robotics. The deadline for this submission will be defined during the conference and its expected due will be December 2016.
